Sorry for not posting these days... I’ve been on
a business trip :/
And now for something completely different: A personal November’s Soundtrack:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fleet Foxes : Fleet Foxes
(This record is magic! It makes me think sometimes about The Hidden Cameras scoring a Sergio Leone’s Spaghetti Western movie. “White Winter Hymnal” is just brilliant. )

..............................................................................
of Montreal : Skeletal Lamping
(I know that I repeated this one... but I’ve been months hooked on this amazing album. Kevin Barnes is a total contemporary genius. )

..............................................................................
Tom Zé : Grande Liquidação
(God Bless Tropicalia!!! )

..............................................................................
Glenn Gould : The Complete Goldberg Variations 1955 & 1981.
(A classic masterpiece. A must.)

..............................................................................
Jessica Bailiff : Old Things. Une collection de chansons 1999-2003.
(Dreamy shoegazer hypnotic compilation. Some of these songs seem to perfectly fit on Twin Peaks.)

..............................................................................
Beach House : Devotion.
(What a warm beautiful and dreamy album...)

..............................................................................
Final Fantasy : Spectrum 14th Century EP+ Plays to Please EP.
(I am a total self-confessed Owen Pallet fan. Final Fantasy concerts are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I wish I could attend to his show together with Grizzly Bear and The Brooklyn Philarmonic on next February! )

..............................................................................
Ally Kerr : Off The Radar + Amorino.
(Ally’s delicate pop songs are soft and brilliant.)

..............................................................................
Vinícius de Moraes & Toquinho... : Grabado en Buenos Aires.
(Really funny bossa-nova albums, great songs mixed with jokes and a lot of saudade.)

..............................................................................
Comet Gain : Broken Record Prayers.
(Fantastic fantastic garage band! One of my favs.)

Glenn's humming
29/11/08 19:02
Last night saw “32 short films about Glenn
Gould” and now admire him more than ever.
Great sense of humour, absolutely brilliant
genius and a total lover of nature and animals.
Quite eccentric but totally charming.
Here you can see Gould playing Bach (amazingly):
and this was the last short film I saw yesterday:
Enjoy the weekend*

Song of the day: Launderette
21/11/08 18:12
Vivien Goldman is a brilliant
british journalist and a post-punk icon, Launderette is her best known
song (maybe you know it from Chicks On Speed
produced “Girl Monster” triple CD).

Beat Happening : Every single
album...
(Since I was fifteen, a time a year I fall under the spell of Calvin Johnson & friends once again... Even my iMac is called Calvin! )

..............................................................................
The Delmontes : Carousel.
(Discovered them last year, a great new wave brit album!)

..............................................................................
The Jesus and Mary Chain : The Power of Negative Thinking (b-sides and rarities 4CD box set).
(A shoegazer collector’s gem).

..............................................................................
Pluramon feat. Julee Cruise : Dreams top rock.
(This is a classic for me...Julee, the dreamy voice from Twin Peaks “Fallen” -main theme- singing in a delicious neo-shoegazer Pluramon album).

..............................................................................
Ride : Nowhere.
(Another shoegazer must. Steve made me remember! Thank you :).

..............................................................................
Bridget St John : Ask me no questions.
(One of the key-records by Bridget released on Dandelion, John Peel’s label. Beautiful late 60s folk.)

..............................................................................
Animal Collective : Sung Tongs.
(Before I was a “Feels” person... but now I’m not so sure... Sung Tongs is amazing!)

..............................................................................
Foals : Antidotes.
(Great contemporary sound, neo-new-wave! once again?! Bravo!)

..............................................................................
Josef K : Entomology.
(Together with The Monochrome Set and Orange Juice are my favourite male post-punk brit bands)

..............................................................................
Electrelane : No shouts, no calls.
(“To the east” played loud drives me crazy)

David Shrigley
24/10/08 10:22
Today at Centre d’Art Santa Monica is starting a
David Shrigley’s exhibition.
I really like this man and totally adore the Worried Noodles book (and the album performed by tons of talented artists!)
Well, nothing else to say...if you are in Barcelona don’t miss the exhibition please, it will make you a nicer person ;)
*The video is Grizzly Bear’s contribution to Worried Noodles.

Back to Barcelona + Great long songs
19/10/08 21:04
Sorry didn’t post these days, I’ve been on a trip
(two pictures below).

---
While I was on the train back to Barcelona yesterday I got noticed about how much I get addicted to long songs...
I was playing over and over “Calvary Scars II / Aux Out” by Deerhunter and then came to my mind some of my favourite songs above 5 minutes...
Some examples:
Calvary Scars II / Aux Out - Deerhunter (10:12)
No conclusion - of Montreal (9:42)
Melody of a fallen tree - Windsor for the Derby (8:16)
I’m still in love (12 inch mix) - Marcia Aitken (7:10)
Hurricane - Bob Dylan (8:33)
Heroin - The Velvet Underground (8:15)
Emily - Joanna Newsom (12:08)
The Purple Bottle - Animal Collective (6:48)
On a nerve - Vetiver (7:39)
Tiger Trap - Beat Happening (6:53)
Mundo, demonio y carne - Los Brincos (12:22)
House of jealous lovers - The Rapture (5:02)
pd: in this list I’m not mentioning any post-rock nor electronic songs as the lenght comparison would be unfair.
**I created on LastFM a playlist with some of the songs in case you want to check them out ;)

Tonight I’m attending a Great Italian Opera
Night at Palau de la Música Catalana
-a stunning concert hall modernista
designed by Domènech i Montaner between
1905-08-.
Arias, duets and recitatives special :D
I wish some of the tenors will sing “Una Furtiva Lagrima” from L’Elisir d’Amore (Donizetti) -here’s a link for the song singed by Best Tenor Ever: Enrico Caruso-

2 of my favourite bands now.
11/09/08 13:10
of Montreal is one of my
favourite bands... their songs are like
contemporary operettas, eclectic and mutating
all the time.
I’m in love with their new record.
here is a video from their last record Hissing fauna, are you the destroyer?
...and today I need to talk about other of my must bands at the moment... in Pitchfork you can see a three part interview with Jay Reatard (totally love his music! -specially loud-)

Catchy tunes... Today "Chanson des Jumelles"
07/09/08 20:10
Two weeks ago I saw “Les demoiselles de
Rochefort” and I still can’t take out of my
mind the main song from the movie composed by le
grand Michel Legrand. Catchy tune,
great choreography and endless beauty by sisters
in real life Catherine Deneuve and Françoise
Dorléac.
See the video below, and if you haven’t seen the movie yet, run and go for it ;)
*also highly recommended “Les Parapluies de Cherbourg” directed by Jacques Demy too!

On the same EP there’s a weirdo latin remix by El Guincho... azucar!!
Totally recommended!

Picnic at Hanging Rock VS. The Virgin Suicides
21/07/08 12:02
Yesterday had the chance to see a classic movie
called “Picnic at Hanging Rock”...
knew some things about it but was stunned by the
cinematography and the overall beauty. Amazing
scenes, light games and psychedelic effects.
Felt like watching Sofia Copula's inspiration before making The Virgin Suicides...The soundtrack is mostly pan-pipe music but if they were changed into synths could have been made by Air easily.
A perfect sunday aussie movie.

Just a teaser from the My Bloody Valentine concert
01/07/08 09:40
MBVroundhouse240608
I recorded this while people were pogo-dancing around me... that’s why the video is soo short.... but totally recommend this gig.
The noisiest experience in my life! EVER!
There were free earplugs for the audience at the entrance of the Roundhouse... A MUST.
You can download the video from the link above... YouTube was banning the video the two times I tried... :/
...and below a couple of Kevin Shields pictures I took.
