Isabella Rossellini's GREEN PORNO

Oh Isabella... The icon, the temporary muse of another of my personal heroes (Mr. David Lynch), one of the most elegant and attractive activists on planet earth...
Well. Cara Isabella lately has been acting, producing, writing and directing Green Porno, a short film series that you can watch on Sundance Channel.
On the films is explained in a very funny way the sexual life of animals.

The set design is mostly made of paper, everything looks fresh and D.I.Y.
Love it.

15 Books

Books time again!!
I’ve been tagged on Facebook by Mr. Duglas T. Stewart (talented soul behind
BMX Bandits) to list 15 books in less than 15 minutes that will always stick with me.

Here’s my list, let’s see... some of them are not novels but instead consult books, essays, etc. The information in them is sticking with me much more than any story on a novel :)

"L.S.D : Flashbacks" Timothy Leary’s autobiography.
Leary's life is one of the most inspiring stories I've ever read.

"Design as Art" by Bruno Munari.
Inspiring reflexions on diferent subjects. I love his description of a traditional japanese house.

"The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies. A comprehensive guide to the ancient healing of India" by Vasant Lad.
Essential at home! A great source of natural remedies and practical ancient indian medicinal tips.

"No one belongs here more than you" by Miranda July.
Her short stories have a unique sensibility... If you liked her movie you are going to love this book!

"Complete prose of Woody Allen" by Woody Allen.
I've read all his books, I love them all. His delirious sense of humour drives me crazy.

"La Danza de la Realidad" Alejandro Jodorowsky’s autobiography.
Jodo could say "been there, done that" about almost everything... his meetings with André Breton made me laugh out loud.

"The Artist’s Way. A spiritual path to higher creativity” by Julia Cameron.
A guide to the path of healthy, spiritual creativity. Even Martin Scorsese practices it!

"Roman by Polanski" Autobiography by Roman Polanski.
This book is addictive. Roman is a total survivor, to the holocaust, Hollywood, Manson...

"I Ching" Richard Wilhelm.
My favourite oracle.

"The Perfume" Patrick Suskind.
Read it when I was a teenager and since then the appreciation of my olfactive environment changed.

"Cien años de soledad" by Gabriel García Marquez.
Also one of my “teenager hits”... It's still fresh on my mind the magical reality captured on this book.

"Lipstick Traces: A Secret History of the 20th Century" by Greil Marcus.
Internationale Situationiste, Dada and Punk in the same book written by one of the most talented music-oriented authors.

"Kink: An Autobiography" Dave Davies.
I laughed so much reading stories from the rise and fall from The Kinks...

"Catching the big fish. Meditation, Consciousness and Creativity" by David Lynch.
I recommend the audiobook version of this one, is like a conversation with David Lynch himself. Truly inspiring!!

"Veganomicon" by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero.
My first official vegan book! Full of delicious recipes with no animal traces.

Miranda July's short stories

I'm enjoying so much this book by Miranda July that I wanted to share it with you.

Her short stories have the kind of strange and abstract sense of humour that I like most. Last night was really late when I was reading in bed and I couldn't control myself from laughing out loud with the first part of "Ten True Things".
Hope Ms. July doesn’t get upset as I'll reproduce below the first half page of this story...

~TEN TRUE THINGS~

Some of those women are really good sewers and you wonder, Why are the taking a beginning sewing class? I like to think it's because they have low self-esteem. They seem totally in control and born to make the rest of us feel clumsy, but inside, they have an almost psychotically warped vision of themselves. At least I am in touch with my skill level. I am a really bad sewer. Interestingly, though, I am not the worst in the class; the tiny Asian woman next to me is. I was sure she would be a really good sewer because most of the clothes in the world are made by Asian women, and also, who's going to be better at making a kimono, me or someone who is Chines or Japanese. Boy, did she teach me a thing or two about racial prejudice. Is she even trying to make a kimono-style robe, or does she think we are making dog beds? I used to get incredibly distracted by her; I was just so amazed at her interpretation of the directions. Like the teacher would say, Trim the excess cloth, and the woman would carefully fold here pink flannel in half, pin it, and then sit back, waiting for the next instruction. What happens when you do the exact opposite of everything you are told of? How would she know when she was done? And shy wasn't anyone doing anything about this? Should I do something? What should I do? But then one day the teacher came around and told me to rip out my last five seams and I wanted to yell, My Seams? At least my seams are for bipeds, what about her last five seams? ...

Some of my favourite places in Barcelona

Since I started writing this blog I've received many e-mails from different people asking me to recommend them "not-so-known places" to visit in Barcelona.
Weeks ago I started to work on a Google map gathering some of my favourite places in the city, personal recommendations for independent travelers... Indie music venues, vintage shops, design bookstores, art galleries, gourmet shops, hip bars, useful places, etc.

It's a work in progress so I'll be updating the map, adding more spots and so on...
Hope you find it useful :)

View Indie Barcelona by Pop-pervert.com in a larger map

Recommended book: Veganomicon

Finally got my copy of the vegan cuisine bible. The Veganomicon.
The ladies at the Post Punk Kitchen gathered these 250 recipes on 2007, it's a classic, a must I'd say.

If you are vegan this will make your kitchen life much better.
If you are vegetarian is a great next step on your diet for your body to feel better and for your soul to feel lighter and happier.
If you are omnivore is a chance to explore some delighful vegan pleasures.

Veganomicon
