Szerelmesfilm (Lovefilm)

Yesterday saw this beautiful hungarian new wave film from 1970. Directed by talented István Szabó (before the Oscar Academy Award ;)
Loved the colours, the light, the rhythm... A good one indeed.
Lovefilm-1
ps: the look of the main movie characters made me think a lot of two Belle and Sebastian’s widely known members...

Jim O'rourke's melodic side

I'm glad that Jim O'Rourke's new record is a soft one... The Visitor it's a beautiful album although I must confess that I'm a little bit disappointed that is an instrumental album. :(
Love to hear him singing along... Oh those Eureka and Insignificance days seem so far away!!!

On this link there’s a video to remember the sweet beginning of Eureka.

Benin rhythms

J’adore Orchestre Poly-rythmo de Cotonou.
Their 70s afro-funk sound is so infectious! It comes from Benin, land of vodoun and congolese rumba.

PS: a recommended reading on Africa and vodoun is “Divine Horsemen: The Living Gods of Haiti” by Maya Deren, one of my favourite experimental filmmakers.
|

Ode to R. Stevie Moore

I’m totally addicted to R. Stevie Moore’s music.
He’s a lo-fi legend, one of the D.I.Y music pioneers. Moore has been recording at home since 1976, when he self-released his first LP “Phonography”. A jewel.

Sometimes his sound reminds me of Syd Barret solo albums, some compositions are new wave, others more Beach-Boys-esque, but all share a really unique essence.
StevieMoore
Save Stevie!! Support him by buying his recordings on his website!

ps: His father was Elvis Presley’s bass player!! Look at him on a Santa Claus hat on the video above.

Graffiti Island

I’m in love with this band! They have released a 7” called “Head Hunters”. Their sound has a strong Beat Happening aura, but darker and dirtier.
I’d love to see them live! Any promoter in Barcelona interested? They are from London and they are called Graffiti Island.

Kyle draws... and very well indeed.

Kyle Field draws and makes music.
Little Wings' "Soft Pow'r" is among my favourite records all time. Beautifully lo-fi. Soulful songs with indie spirit, great at nights.
K Records (the label from other of my favourite persons in the music world -Calvin Johnson-) releases his albums.
Before Little Wings he had a band together with M.Ward called Rodriguez.

Today I'm really happy to at last share with you one of the new designs made for Cineplexx! (usually am really impacient when it comes to wait for months to show the projects I'm involved in... )

Roller skates in the movies

I like roller skates very much, haven’t used them for years as now I’m a bike and walk person but admit they have a kind of retro-kitsch feel that I totally adore.
Below a roller skate selection on the screen!

Xanadu (1980)
Ohhh... iconic.

------------------------

Roller Boogie (1979)
Amazing movie! Look at The Rapture’s video inspired on this film... groooovy!

Skatetown, USA (1979)
Love on wheels, cheesy outfits and Patrick Swayze on a leather waistcoat!

It’s always fair weather (1955)
Gene Kelly tap dancing on roller skates is amazing!

Unholy Rollers (1972)
Playmate Claudia Jennings as a skating goddess.
