Update your bookmarks, new address!

I’m moving.
Well... my blogging activities are moving.
Please, update your RSS feed darlings as we are going to The Present Tense. That’s my new blog. ;)
So many pseudonyms and different domains were making me dizzy lately so I’ve decided going back to the (new)basics.
anamontielblog.blogspot.com is my new daily home. I’ll be posting more as it’s going to be easier with Blogger than with this Rapidweaver application. :)
Wanted to THANK YOU for visiting pop-pervert all this time. I’m very happy with the feedback I’ve received, but now it’s time for new adventures!
Are you coming? See you there*

15 Books
03/08/09 19:38
Books time again!!
I’ve been tagged on Facebook by Mr. Duglas T. Stewart (talented soul behind BMX Bandits) to list 15 books in less than 15 minutes that will always stick with me.
Here’s my list, let’s see... some of them are not novels but instead consult books, essays, etc. The information in them is sticking with me much more than any story on a novel :)
"L.S.D : Flashbacks" Timothy Leary’s autobiography.
Leary's life is one of the most inspiring stories I've ever read.
"Design as Art" by Bruno Munari.
Inspiring reflexions on diferent subjects. I love his description of a traditional japanese house.
"The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies. A comprehensive guide to the ancient healing of India" by Vasant Lad.
Essential at home! A great source of natural remedies and practical ancient indian medicinal tips.
"No one belongs here more than you" by Miranda July.
Her short stories have a unique sensibility... If you liked her movie you are going to love this book!
"Complete prose of Woody Allen" by Woody Allen.
I've read all his books, I love them all. His delirious sense of humour drives me crazy.
"La Danza de la Realidad" Alejandro Jodorowsky’s autobiography.
Jodo could say "been there, done that" about almost everything... his meetings with André Breton made me laugh out loud.
"The Artist’s Way. A spiritual path to higher creativity” by Julia Cameron.
A guide to the path of healthy, spiritual creativity. Even Martin Scorsese practices it!
"Roman by Polanski" Autobiography by Roman Polanski.
This book is addictive. Roman is a total survivor, to the holocaust, Hollywood, Manson...
"I Ching" Richard Wilhelm.
My favourite oracle.
"The Perfume" Patrick Suskind.
Read it when I was a teenager and since then the appreciation of my olfactive environment changed.
"Cien años de soledad" by Gabriel García Marquez.
Also one of my “teenager hits”... It's still fresh on my mind the magical reality captured on this book.
"Lipstick Traces: A Secret History of the 20th Century" by Greil Marcus.
Internationale Situationiste, Dada and Punk in the same book written by one of the most talented music-oriented authors.
"Kink: An Autobiography" Dave Davies.
I laughed so much reading stories from the rise and fall from The Kinks...
"Catching the big fish. Meditation, Consciousness and Creativity" by David Lynch.
I recommend the audiobook version of this one, is like a conversation with David Lynch himself. Truly inspiring!!
"Veganomicon" by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero.
My first official vegan book! Full of delicious recipes with no animal traces.

My neighbourhood in the summer.
14/07/09 09:46
Lately I’ve been enjoying long walks around my
neighbourhood -Poble Sec-.
My favourite walk is to get up to the Montjuic mountain to after lay in the grass near some ponds full of water lilies and tadpoles.
Soon I’ll select some places to eat and visit on Poble Sec in case you are visiting Barcelona for your vacations. ;)
Below are some pics I took last week...
Flower fields at the Montjuic mountain.
My cat with the organic tiny tomatoes at our balcony :)
Did you knew that Barcelona’s trees are full of pigeons and parrots? These three were so funny eating rice left on the sidewalk!
(In Spain is an antique tradition to throw grains of uncooked rice to the wedding couples when they get out of the church.)
Trees at Montjuic.
These are two passifloras at my balcony. I adore these plant, it seem to come from outer space.
Gardens at Montjuic.
More gardens at Montjuic.
Water lilies!
Plants at the Montjuic mountain.
Ohh... I love these trees.

Fashion scans and no internet at home
13/06/09 15:14
Here some fashion images I've scanned from a book I'm
reading...
I won't be posting daily for a while as I have no internet connection at home thanks to France Telecom and their awful customer service.
Hope next week everything is fixed and back on track. Meanwhile I'm uploading this post from the washing machine at my kitchen, the only place where I can reach a little bit of some neighbour's wi-fi.
Have a great weekend ;)
America welcoming Twiggy for the first time!
Mademoiselle Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel
Karl Lagerfeld at home
A creation of my beloved Cristobal Balenciaga
Zazou jazzy style

Some of my favourite places in Barcelona
05/06/09 11:53
Since I started writing this blog I've received many
e-mails from different people asking me to recommend
them "not-so-known places" to visit in Barcelona.
Weeks ago I started to work on a Google map gathering some of my favourite places in the city, personal recommendations for independent travelers... Indie music venues, vintage shops, design bookstores, art galleries, gourmet shops, hip bars, useful places, etc.
It's a work in progress so I'll be updating the map, adding more spots and so on...
Hope you find it useful :)
View Indie Barcelona by Pop-pervert.com in a larger map

Cadaqués ida y vuelta
24/05/09 12:29
*Yesterday spent the day in Cadaqués, a well-known
catalan fishing village near France. Five
minutes far from this small town, at Port Lligat
bay you can visit Salvador Dali's former house.
We spent a great day in such a beautiful village!
Below some pictures + have a nice Sunday!
**Ayer pasamos un dia precioso en Cadaqués. Un pueblecito pescador situado en la Costa Brava catalana, muy cerca de Francia; donde Salvador Dalí tenía su casa con vistas.
Aqui teneis algunas fotos. Si teneis la oportunidad, no dudeis en visitarlo!
Feliz domingo.

Berliner calling...
01/05/09 20:04
After sooooooooooooo much work in my life I'm taking
a rest to visit one of my favourite cities in the
world, BERLIN!!
Arty, Bohemian, Cheap, Dazzling , Effervescent, Fantastic, Gorgeous, Hip... I could name the whole ABC with beautiful words to describe the city...
Took the decision two days ago, now I'm packing and tomorrow morning I'll be on my way to Prenzlauer Berg!
If you know any berliner activity you want to share with me, drop me a line, I'll be on my laptop happy to read it :)
When I'm back I'll keep you posted about my finds on the city, meanwhile I want to share an amazing early Kraftwerk video to get in a german mood...
See you in 8 days!

Sorry for not posting all these days, I needed badly
some vacations... to bake cookies, watch movies, go
to exhibitions, ignore the computer a little bit...
you know, Christmas things ;)

Happy 2009 and beyond everybody, wish peace and love are visiting us a little bit more than in the past. I wish, I hope.
Personally for me, Christmas = Wham :)
listen to this “Last Christmas” cover by Erlend Oye (Kings of Convenience). Beautiful.

About pop-pervert
01/01/09 19:11
NOTE:
Hola hola.
For 2009 I’ve made a few changes at pop-pervert, hope you like them.
As the blog document was getting really heavy to work with on Rapidweaver, I started another different document from scratch. Anyhow you can still visit the pop-pervert 2007-2008 archives here.
ABOUT THIS BLOG:
My name is Ana Montiel, I am 27 and live in Barcelona, I work in different areas such as illustration, pattern design, graphic design, fashion, art, special editorial content... always trying to keep myself as open to as many disciplines as possible, trying new things to reach versatile and different results on my projects.
I write this blog as a sort of "inspirational diary", featuring a selection of things that blow my mind. This weblog also works to showcase my creative process. A place where I upload drafts, sneak-a-peaks and so on from my projects.
I am the co-founder (together with my super business development partner Alex Bedoya) and creative director at Alan the Gallant, a multi-talent design bureau.
Through Sir Alan we offer a wide range of services for art-sensitive companies and people with good taste in general. :)
Before we were known as itte studio, in those days we were working on more corporate projects but now we are more freestyle, experimental and happy. ;)
Also as Alan the Gallant we have created a pattern design brand called Pattern Tales®. Pattern Tales is a neo-ornamental brand producing high quality non-woven limited edition wallpapers that you can buy on Gallant Tales, Alan’s online store.
Years ago, I was half of Colectivo Koleko, won 2 art prizes, produced several exhibitions and had a great time.
Now, I'm working again on different art approaches as Ana Montiel (or AMON ) and hopefully there will be some exhibitions and collaborations soon, I'll write about the updates on pop-pervert.com
I am always looking for art spaces and galleries to exhibit my work, as well as collaborate on art submissions and in art magazines. These are always welcome!
So if you are interested feel free to contact me.
Well, thanks for visiting and reading.
:)
ps: Oh! ...and the name Pop Pervert comes from my obsession with music and pop culture, I must confess that I am a total music addict, listening to new bands everyday and always researching further and further into many musical fields. Long live good music!
